"Under The Bed"

For this week's writing task we had to pick a writing prompt!
and I choose the under the bed one so we had to complete all of the activites which were: (writing the story, answering the questions which were: What was the noise he heard, what did he see under the bed, what will happen next, how did he feel when he first heard the noise, how did he feel when he looked under the bed, what time of the day do you think it is, have you ever been frightend of anything and why do things seem more frightening at night?. The sentence challenge which was to describe the noise without saying what it is I didn't write much because I couldn't think of anymore sounds for this animal! And perfect picture which was to draw a picture/trace what he seen under the bed!

We also had to add language features to our story which were, Alliteration (the same letter at the start of your senctence - Example: B - Billy bounced a ball), Onomatopoeia (the things like BOOM, CRASH and more, Metaphor (Things that sound simliar - Example: She read the book at a snail's pace), Simile (A comparison using "like" or "as" - example "she was smart as an owl", hyperbole (an exaggeration - Example: "It was like a thousand pounds", Personification (giving human qualities to things) - example: The floor boards danced across the room), Idiom (a phrase that has a different meaning from the dictionary) - example: The test was a peice of cake!"

What I found difficult was thinking of what was under the bed because I had no idea what scuttling meant so I searched it up and it was little footsteps so I came up with mouse! I enjoyed doing all the activites because they weren't just writing they were also questions and drawing!

This is my writing!
------------------------

The scuttling noise had disturbed Michael, and he shot bolt upright in bed.
After taking a deep breath, he flung himself onto the smooth wooden boards of
his bedroom floor but it was like his bedroom floor was trying to pull him back but he
took a peek.. in relief, he saw a little small grey mouse with no tail creeping and squeaking
around the cheese under his bed. He grabbed the mouse and put it into a small container
and as soon as he did that he quietly tiptoed to the kitchen knowing his parents were asleep.
He opened the fridge and grabbed a piece of leftover cheese from dinner, he quietly shut the
fridge and headed back to where the mouse was. He opened the container and stored the cheese
there, he was glad that there was no monster under his bed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Questions:

1. What was the noise Michael heard?
- He heard a scuttling noise (little footsteps)

2. What did he see under the bed?

The ANZAC Violin

WALT: Use descriptive writing

This week for writing our teacher read us a book called "The Anzac Violin." It was about a guy called "Alexander Aitken" who fought for New Zealand while carrying a violin. He managed to carry it all the way until he was wounded, but one of his crew members gave it to him after the world war ended. Now it's in a all boys high school. So for our task we had to make a table including: See (what can you see), Hear (what can you hear), Location (where was it and was it dusty), Movement (crawling or walking) and Temperature (cold or hot). And we had to describe one of the moments as a diary entry because while Alexander was in the war he wrote diary enteries but it wasn't very detailed so now, we have to make one with a lot of detail. The table was our draft so after we did that we have to make our real copy.

For my diary entry I did the part where he was wounded and was crawling past his dead crew members. I enjoyed putting it all together because I had a lot of great ideas and what I found diffcult was putting it all together.

This is my writing!

I frighteningly crawl towards my lifeless crew members as the breeze passes by me. I could hear the terrifying gunshots as i’m almost there, I stopped and looked up at the night sky I could see stars appearing as I lay there suffering. Soon enough I opened my eyes everything was fuzzy, I blinked as much as I could until I could see a train I got a fright when the loud engine started..where were they taking me?

Christmas Acrostic Poems!

We have been learning about different types of writing this year. So for the past weeks we had to choose a type of writing (category/genre.) For example persuasive, narrative, poems and more. So we had to pick one each day and post it on our blog. I choose to do a poem we could choose any type like a diamante or a acrostic and more!

I chose to do an acrostic poem about Christmas (because it's almost Christmas). But instead of just writing one sentence I came up with sentences so it would be more interesting and not boring, I also came up with some words to do so I didn't just do one word and then I'm finished I wrote about four long acrostic poems!

These are all my poems!!

- Christmas
Christmas is a special holiday because it’s Jesus’s birthday!
Heaps of presents being given out
Red and white is Santa’s colors
It is a day when you get to spend time with your family
Santa Claus gives out presents when it’s Christmas but only to good kids
The kids all scream happily as they open their presents!
Mostly everyone celebrates Christmas
A lot of people say “Merry Christmas” when it’s Christmas time
Snowflakes fall down from the sky as Christmas begins

-Snow
Snowflakes softly landing on the ground
No eating the snowflakes!
On the snow making a snow angel
Walking on the hard ice that used to be snow

- Decorations
Decorating for Christmas
Everyone helps to decorate around the house
Constantly putting Christmas lights all around the house
Outstanding decorations that was everyone did
Reindeers being put on the Christmas tree
Always helping to decorate
Taking the star and putting it up on the Christmas tree
Icy decorations being put on the Christmas tree
Only the good decorations get put around the house
Newly put decorations on the Christmas tree
So much options to choose from

- Merry Christmas!
Making Christmas more joyful by saying “Merry Christmas!”
Everyone always says “Merry Christmas”
Running around the whole house greeting family
Rushing around greeting family while trying to make presents
Yay! It’s Christmas “Merry Christmas”

Christmas is in December and when it is Christmas, you always need to say “Merry Christmas”
Heaps of people greeting other people
Running around the town greeting other people
In the house underneath the Christmas tree while your family greets you
Saying “Merry Christmas” all day long
Talking about Christmas
Merry Christmas is what you say when it is Christmas
Always saying the greeting whenever it’s Christmas
Santa saying “Merry Christmas” to his elves

The TRUE story of Hansel and Gretel

Last Friday, our class and some other classes from our school was lucky enough to see the ballet performance "Hansel and Gretel" we only got to see half of it when Hansel and Gretel were going to the gingerbread house, because the real bit was going to be for two hours but it was one hour because we had to get to school.

So for this week we had to make our own version of Hansel and Gretel since there are a lot of versions and the one that we saw (ballet performance) was a bit different to what we expected and so, we could make the ending different or anything different we could also add plot twists which could make the story seem more interesting, and we could also make it so it's different perspectives.

I found it a bit difficult to make the story different because I had no idea how to make it my own version but then I thought of a way to make it seem really interesting! I enjoyed making my story seem intersting with adding all of the plots twists and different perspectives.

This is my story.
(It's not finished yet but I will be finishing it)

“Hansel did you leave a pile of bread crumbs?”
“Yeah”
“Now, how about if dad finds us?”
“Don’t think so let’s keep going.”
“Hansel, look a cool gingerbread house!”

“Well..I am feeling a bit hungry, let’s go inside?”
“I guess”

I need to see if Hansel and Gretel want bread. “Hansel, Gretel?” hm, why aren’t they replying?
Maybe I'll just see if there- What!? There not here..maybe they just went outside, yeah! I’ll go look
I guess. “Hansel? Gretel?” There not here..wait! There’s bread crumbs maybe I could follow it..

I opened the door quietly as I could so no one would catch me,
I wondered if anyone was here anyways I thought about what mum always said
“Never talk to strangers” but no one would be here right like I mean it looks very empty anyways.
I walked in and the house was very dirty It was so different to the outside everything was rusty
and it almost looks like if a witch lived here but I didn’t mind, I was really hungry but then suddenly
the door opened and made a little squeaky sound. I was afraid and quickly ran behind Hansel in fear.

“What are you kids doing here!?”
“W-we need some help!” Hansel yelled
“Eh! No need to yell I could get you some food.”
“Psst, Hansel remember what mum said?”
“Well we don’t want to starve to death right?” Whispered Hansel
“Right..” whispered Gretel
“Well, I'll be right back to get you some food.”

I looked a Gretel and said “Everything’s going to be okay, she looks nice.”
But Gretel looked away and headed straight for the door I didn’t want to be
here alone and before I even knew what I was doing I grabbed her arm
and hugged her I knew she liked hugs and it would probably persuade
her to stay here with me. I stopped hugging her and she said “Fine, but promise that we’ll be safe?”
I didn’t reply for a second but then I said “yes, promise!” so after I said that the lady came back with
a lot of food, it was mostly dessert but I didn’t mind.

“Here you go make sure to finish it all.” said the stranger
“Okay then.” Hansel said

Couple of hours later, Hansel ate a lot while Gretel only finished one plate.
Hansel began to get fat, but he didn’t care all he cared about was eating soon later
after five plates he fell asleep right on the chair, Gretel did too.

“Hansel! Wake up.” Yelled Gretel
“What What!”
“Your in a cage, and you promised me that we’ll be safe but you lied!” Shouted Gretel
“SHH! I’m sorry look. I thought we could trust her..” Whispered Hansel
“Now she’s going to cook you alive, because you ate a lot of food!”
“W-What..how do you know!?”
“Uhh..what do you mean?”
“HOW DO YOU KNOW ALL OF THIS!?” yelled Hansel
“H-heh, I don’t know anything I swear. It was a lucky guess!!”
“Your not Gretel are you…?”
“Of course I'm not!”
“Who are you?”
“You can call me Ketel!”
“W-Wait your our long lost sister!” yelled Hansel
“Yes now I can finally get my revenge!”
“What have you done with Gretel!”
“Don’t worry I just thrown her back in the woods.”
“WHAT!”
“Eh, now let me just turn on the oven..”

“Huh?” Why am I back in the woods and Hansel..NO! He’s still in there with the stranger,
I need to go save him what if he’s in danger? but how am I going to get back, there’s
no breadcrumbs and I can’t even see the gingerbread house..wait..
“DAD!”
“Gretel!”
“I’m sorry dad, we just wanted to see the magical forest you were talking about.”
“Magical? Haha! It was just a joke.”
“Oh…”
“Where’s Hansel?”
“HANSEL! He’s in danger. The gingerbread house!”
“Why!?”
“Well we went in the gingerbread house and then we met a lady that gave us a lot
of food but then Hansel began to get fat and then I woke up here and I don’t know
what happened next but he’s in danger!!”
“Gretel! Take a deep breath..”
“Sorry, but I don’t know where the gingerbread house is!” said Gretel taking a deep breath
“Don’t worry, let's just keep walking straight.”

What am I going to do, Gretel might be in more danger than me how about if she’s thrown in
the lake!? I’m going to be cooked and she’s going to be drowned!? No..no...no! I knew it
I should have just trusted her. Wait..Is that key on top of the cage? Hmmm maybe be I could..grab it.
“HEY, what are you DOING?” Shouted Ketel

We Did It!

For writing we look back to term 1 when we did descriptive writing, so our teacher
Mrs Lee put up a image
up the TV screen, it was one girl and one boy up a mountain.
So then we had to write about it descriptively..using our five senses. And it isn't a recount writing it
had to
be when we're like right there. We also had to write it with paragraphs.

What I found difficult was using the sense "Taste" because I had no idea what to write about it, it took me a long time to think about what I should write..
What I enjoyed is writing what I see because I can quickly get a beautiful picture in my head about what I see below and up top.
-----------------------------------
Well this is my writing!

We Did It!

I could taste victory! Finally we made it! I could also taste the fresh cool water that I got out of my bag.

I could smell the fresh warm breeze as it passes me feeling relaxed from being exhausted, then I suddenly began to close my eyes while the warm breeze passes by.

But then I could hear my friend shouting out “We did it!!” running out of air, which made me open my eyes but then when we were both quiet, I could hear water splashing together while I hear the rocks go sliding down the mountain as I start to stand up.

I could feel the hard rocks that felt like concrete but more round, when I began to stand up, I also feel the bright sun shining down on me beginning to feel hot.

I can see the beautiful sky the top part was dark blue and the middle part was more of a light baby blue with white mixed in with it. I can also see the fresh cut bright green grass from all the way at the bottom of the mountain. I look around and I can see the light blue river that was running. What God made was so beautiful.

Adam The Avocado

In class this is our second time making collaborative writing which is writing in our groups. For this we had to use scholastic story starters, for our story and it was to write a funny story about a know it all avocado who is always getting in trouble. After we had created our story we had to make a picture book. Mrs Lee our teacher showed us some picture books to get some ideas. I actually found this really diffcult because it was really hard making the characters. But I had really fun making a picture book!
This is our picture book; hope you guys had fun reading it!
