And the winner is..

WALT: combine prior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas

For reading our group 'Sophie' we read a book called "And the winner is..." which was about four friends having a competition which was who could use the lawn mower to cut the grass the fastest.

So for our activity we had to design/create a new lawn mower which would be more fun for kids so they could mow the lawn! I enjoyed designing because it was fun coming up with new ideas!

This is my lawnmower

Market Day

For this term our school has been planning to do another market day! So our class has been choosing of what to sell for market day, we have been coming up with lots of ideas like waffles, slushies, spiders, pie face, water balloon throwing, bracelets and more. So we had a good discussion (profits, price and a lot more) about what we were going to sell for market day. Other classes will also be selling stuff.
-
Our class will be selling: spiders (fizzy drink with ice cream on top), pie face (you can play the game), waffles, sponge throwing (throw sponges at a certain person), briquettes (things you could put in your fireplace) and lollies in jar (you guess how many are in the jar and if you guess it right you get the lollies.

In class we have been put into groups of four to plan and make posters about the certain item that we're going to be selling. For our planning we have to include the price, profit and the things that we will be needing after that we had to make our own posters, but we we're still in groups. So we could have four different posters going around. For our posters we had to include the price and a sentence to go with what your selling.

This is my poster that I did!

Stop, Slow, Go!

WALT: Share what we explored with whanau.

Last term the school was learning about exploration. So last term we were looking at acids and bases and then experiments.

We were put into groups of three and we got to choose an any experiment to do from the four experiments to share to our parents for the celebration of learning! Our group choose the volcano one. This is the method of the experiment; Put dishwashing liqud into the cup then the food colouring and baking soda into the cup. Slowly start pouring the vinegar into the cup and then...STAND BACK!!
This was a first try we were trying to make it look like the a traffic light from the colours. But it was a fail and it ended up looking like diarrhea!! And it didn't really fizz much.

This was our group's second try it was much better than our first try and it also fizzed more and the colour was also much better and it didn't look like diarrhea..

This was my group at the celebration of learning day with all our stuff ready!

Last of all this is our group's slideshow it has all the information about the experiment, what we learnt and so on!

What I enjoyed about this was doing the experiment because even though it seems boring it was actually really fun but it was quite messy..

Some Questions For You To Answer If You Have Learnt From The Poster: - What are the differences, of there, their and they're? - Could you make a sentence of there their and they're? - What did you learn?

A Birthday Cake

WALT: ask questions before during and after reading to focus my understanding. At reading time, we read a book, called "A birthday cake for Grandma" and we had a task to make a birthday cake, for someone and describe why we designed this way. Also for who it's for. And this is my birthday cake! What kind of birthday cake do you like? And who would you give it to?

South Africa

WALT: Make predictions by looking for clues and scanning for specific information. In class I have been learning about South Africa, and read a book called "A rock and a hard place." It's about this guy who moved, to New Zealand with his parents and he plays rugby. (from South Africa of course). And we had to make a poster showing things all about South Africa, this my google drawing!. What I might to differently is: I might add more information if I could. But for my one, we had to add the flag, map, Capital, population, and five things that South Africa is famous for. Also it was really fun to make! I've learnt a lot of things of what South Africa is famous for. What do you know about South Africa? Or do you know any information about South Africa?
