Colors in Te Reo Maori

Since it is Maori Language Week, for our reading activites we have to learn about the different songs, colors, numbers (and more) in Maori. We are also learning how to use different types of tools for our learning instead of using the boring stuff like a plain slideshow, google drawing and the others tools. I have choosen to do a slideshow but not just an normal and plain slideshow, it is a slideshow with links and other stuff like that to make it more fun and more unique aswell. I have also choose to teach you guys the different colors in Te Reo Maori!

Is was really fun to make the different links and stuff to it to make it more unique and not boring. I enjoyed designing it and putting the links it to go to another slide and animating some of it! I didn't find anything difficult I just got a bit confused.

This is my DLO!

Learn The Pirate Language

For this term our whole school is focusing on the Pirate Culture. And to do with that our class has been reading a book called "Pirate Treasure." And so for our reading task it has been related to the book, we are doing chapters 1-4 (there are four activites that we had to finish), so for our first reading activity we had to make either a text, audio or a video showing how to speak pirate. This can also be a collaborative task so I did this with a buddy! We decided to create a DLO showing how to speak pirate.

I enjoyed doing this a learning about how Pirates talk. I found recording it very difficult because there was a lot of distractions and we couldn't really get it done in time, and it didn't really work out very well.

This is our DLO!

Freya's Hens

For reading we have been learning about pleiades around the world they are basically myths about the stars from the different countries and how they came up to the sky, there are different stories like Matariki, The Great Bear and more.
Our task was to look at other pleiades and choose a country from the slideshow, and research about it and then make a DLO about it. I choose to do Freya's Hens, there wasn't much information about it so I had to do as much as I can. But next time i'll make sure to do more information!

What I found difficult was researching about it because I couldn't find much information about the star cluster and even with videos. I enjoyed learning about Pleiades and the different myths and stories about it. A lot of them seems very intersting.

Matariki

Matariki
-------------
For this week's reading task we are learning about Matariki. We had to read or either listen to information about Matariki, the reason why we are learning this is because the stars appear in late May or early June and it's good to know things about Matariki.

All the information was put in our class site by our teacher. There was four texts we had to read and there was even a quiz, after we had read or listened to the texts we had to do a little quiz with the whole class in groups and in a google doc aswell. Then after that we had to make a DLO (I made a powtoon) about Matariki, I had to screencastify my powtoon because I couldn't export my powtoon.

This is my powtoon!
What have you learnt?
Did you already know about Matariki?
Would you want to see the stars?

Pōhā

Pōhā - A Clever way of Storing Food

For this week's reading task we had to read a text called "Pōhā" if you don't know what Pōhā is it's a traditional Māori bag made from a special kind of kelp, they made this when cans and freezers never even existed and some of them still do now!

For our task we had to read two different texts that had information about Pōhā and then after we had done that we had to watch a video of people showing us how to make Pōhā. Then after that we had to find our own information about Pōhā and add it to a shared google doc. After that we had to make a DLO (I made a slideshow) explaining what we have learnt and including the impact and, what we could add/change onto the design.

This is my slideshow!
Here are some questions!

What have you learnt?
Would you use this method if you can?
What would you change?

"Lest We Forget"

WALT: Think critically when looking at information in different texts.

For reading we have been focusing on ANZAC day, so for one of our reading activites were about ANZAC mascots so now it's about ANZAC memorials! And this is the second activity that I will be posting out of my eight activties.

This activity is about creating a poster about the phrase "Lest We Forget." Just saying what it means and including pictures. If you don't know what it means it's just saying that we should at least remember what happened in the war, and what other people experienced and had to face during that war and that thousands of men that died had loved ones who would have been really upset to hear that they have passed away.

This is my poster!

Different Ways To Celebrate ANZAC Day!

WALT: Think critically when looking at information in different texts.

For the past weeks we have been learning about ANZAC day and for one of our activites we were learning about ANZAC mascots and know we are learning about ANZAC memorials! So we had to do eight activites which were all related to ANZAC day. So after we have done all of that we had to post two things on the blog so this is one of them which is: Different ways to Celebrate ANZAC day!

So I have came up with three different ideas to celebrate ANZAC day without gathering around because of the covid-19. So my ideas were: We can wear the red poppies, we can have a day where you wear red with your family and donate some red clothes that you don't fit anymore and give it to someone else, and a moment to think about our ANZACs which we can have a minute or so to think about the ANZACs who fought in the war for our country and some of them has loved ones so they would have been really upset.

Anzac Mascots

WALT: Think critically when looking at information in different texts.

Over the past weeks our class has been focusing on war, including the anzac day. We have read different stories about it aswell. So for reading we usually just do our own group work but we are all focusing on one thing which is ANZAC mascots. I read a lot of things about anzac mascots and i've learnt a lot of information about them!

For one of our tasks we had to find our own information and link it to a google doc where everyone else's information are, i've already completed that task now I had to make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about what I have learnt from ANZAC mascots! I haven't done the last task but i'm working on it and it was too create your own mascot for the war and explain how it will be useful and I will be posting that soon.

I didn't really find anything difficult because the tasks are kinda of easy and they're also really fun to do and I can learn new stuff! I enjoyed making a DLO of what I learnt and I would enjoy making the mascots aswell.

This is my DLO!

And the winner is..

WALT: combine prior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas

For reading our group 'Sophie' we read a book called "And the winner is..." which was about four friends having a competition which was who could use the lawn mower to cut the grass the fastest.

So for our activity we had to design/create a new lawn mower which would be more fun for kids so they could mow the lawn! I enjoyed designing because it was fun coming up with new ideas!

This is my lawnmower

My Mural!

WALT: combine pior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas

In our reading group we have been reading a passage called "watch this space." It is about a big wall which is plain and grey and kids draw their ideas on a piece of paper and a artist paints their ideas on the wall.

So our activity was to make our OWN mural which is like a design on a wall. So we could make anything like a pattern. And we also had to make a flowchart on how to do it, and what you will need!
Something I found diffcult was thinking of what to draw but then I just added shapes and stuff and it turned out to this!
I really enjoyed making it because you could add anything and you could be creative about it.

This is my Mural!

Why isn't the world covered in poop?

WALT: critically analyse texts.

This week we did something a little different for reading. We had to learn about why the world isn't covered in poop, so we had to go onto a certain site to look at all the information and videos and the next thing we had to do is either create a google doc or a google slide. I made a slide and then we had to do activities, so we had to post three of the activities.

This is my main slideshow of the activities that I've done.

This was my first activity that I did. I had to answer these questions:
How big is a Dung Beetle? (long)
Why do you find lots of Dung Beetles on the African plains?

This is the second activity that I had to do which was to create a picture of how dung beetles move their ball of dung (poop). We also had to add labels and add some information.

This is my last activity which was to write about a dung beetle's physical features I decided to do mine's on mindmup!

My Own House Bus

WALT: combine pior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas

For this weeks reading task we had to do another synthesis questions, relating to the book were reading called "Breakfast on the bus" it's about a grandad, a boy and a dog who all have their breakfast in a house bus that grandad lives in. And the problem is that grandad and the boy thinks that Five the dog swallowed his hearing aid but it was on the seat the whole time.

So we had two tasks to choose from. The first one was to either create something that would stop Five from eating another things than food, the next task was to create a house bus that you'd live in! I did the second task!

My idea was to make things that you'd usually have in a house but not all the things like a toilet!
This is my house bus!

Habitat For Eels

WALT: combine prior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas.

This week for reading our group has been reading a new passage called "The Tame Eels Of Anatoki" It's about this girl who has been feeding eels for over fifty years and now everybody in now feeding the eels.

So for our activity we had to do the synthesis question again. And so we had to create a new habitat for the eels so people could go and see them and even play with them. We could use a google drawing to do that, I made mine with it. And we had to explain it and also use labels to show what's it's for and how it's going to be use!
This is my google drawing!

The Mousetrap

In class for reading we have been doing informations webs but this time we had to create something else. It was to make a mousetrap! (for my group) we have been reading a fiction text called "The mousetrap" so instead of doing a information web we had to make a mousetrap, we could do it on anything I choose to do mine on a google drawing.

When we are making the mousetrap it shouldn't harm the mouse it should just keep it trapped.

This is my mousetrap!

Farmer Chas And His Dogs

WALT: Increase speed when unpacking sentences using ITTM.

In class we had to do another information web again, for another passage. I'm reading "Farmer Chas and his dogs." I choose to do mine on a mindmup again!

So we had to do a mindmup (but you can choose to do it on anything) about the information that we learnt in the story. We were still reading a non-fiction passage which is a real story.

This is my information web!

Free Range Hens - Information Web

WALT: Increase speed when unpacking sentences using ITTM.

It's term 4, and we are doing reading! So for this we had to read a passage which is a non-fiction text called "Happy Hens" but we had to call our information web "Free Range Hens" because they are.

So I decided to do an information web on mindmup. This time it was pretty different because we had to put information not like the 6 elements which are: feelings, outcome, characters, settings, action and problem. We had to just add information about the passage.

 This is my information web!

See You in the Cosmos

For the past term we our teacher Mrs Lee, has been reading us a class novel called "See you in the cosmos." It is about a guy named Alex who is 11 years old and wants to launch his golden ipod into space so aliens or people up there who haven't been to earth and see what it's like and go there.
So for reading, we had a task and it was to create a slideshow for our see you in the cosmos work. So every week we have an activity to do, and we have to do it on our slideshow or do it in a google drawing or an app then transfer it/screenshoot it so we could put it in our slideshow.

For our first activity we just read a chapter of a book and we got to know things about Alex, which he named his dog after his hero "Carl Sagan." And we had to write and research ten facts about Carl Sagan. Our next activity was to write your name as an acronym, it was actually hard to come up with something for the letter "I" so I asked someone!

For our week 5 activity we had to write about Zed's point of view because we just got introduced to him in the book! Then we had to go on to avatar maker and make a avatar about what we think Zed looks like from the description Alex said!

Okay for our week 6 activity is to think about the quotes that was written and write what the quote means to us! that was the only activity that we had to do! So for our week 7 activity we made a missing dog poster for Carl Sagan because he went missing (in the book!) So I made it in a google drawing!

Okay! We missed one week so for our week 9 activity was to write 4-5 paragraphs about my typical school day and pretending I brought my golden ipod just like Alex. I wrote about 11 paragraphs....because it had to be the whole day..

For my week 10 task I didn't finish because I didn't have much time to finish it so soon i'll be working on it! So we had to think about what love, bravery and truth meant to us, and we had to draw or take an image for a symbol representing it.

Anyways! This is the last week, and we've finished the book!! I really liked the ending because it was nice, and it was very meaningful!

This is my slideshow!
I really enjoyed doing this.
Some questions!
Q: What was your favourite activity?
Q: What activity would you do and why?
Q: What does love, bravery and truth mean to you?

What is a Sandstorm??

WALT: Unpack sentences using gestures with ITTM

In our reading groups we read a non-fiction explantion text, about sandstorms. It was telling us what our sandstorms and the facts about it. And then we had to do a infographic again!

So this time I choose to do a list stating facts about sandstorms on canva again. For the list I actually putted it in order from what the paragraphs say. I managed to get six facts on my inforgraphic!! Hope you learn some new facts about sandstorms!!

From my last infographic my group members comment on my last post and they said that I didn't really need to improve on anything, so that's okay. But I did the same thing for my last infographic and tried to add a lot of facts!!

This is my infographic!

Do Thunder And Lightning Always Go Together?

WALT: Unpack sentences using gestures with ITTM

We read a non-fiction text called "Do lightning and thunder always go together?" It was about the facts about thunder and lightning I leared a lot when I read this passage with my group. It was a very intresting passage!

For this week our class did another shared slideshow. But this time we read a non-fiction text, a non-fiction is when it's a true story and when it's an explantion passage. We had to create a infographic about our non-fiction text, we could do it on anything I choose to do my on canva and for my infographic I decided to do a poster telling facts about lightning and thunder.

This is my infographic!

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori - Scavenger Hunt

Last week was Maori Language Week! And when it was reading time we had to do a scavenger hunt, not the one outside but collecting information. For our task we had to make a copy of this google doc and we had to choose 3-4 tasks to do out of the 7 tasks. We also could did one of the tasks in animaker or powtoon.

I choose four tasks to do one of them we the Maori spirituality. We had to look up four words which are; Mana, Wairua, Tapu and Mauri. We had to look them up in a Maori dictionary, I choose "Mauri" You can find out what it means in the second slide! We also had to make a symbol to go with it. Another task that I did was praying with the Psalms, which is when I translate my psalm into a Maori psalm..and make a poster showing the psalm in english and in te reo Maori. My other task that I choose to do is to look up facts about te reo Maori in google. My last and final task was to make a presentation about me, with using some words in te reo Maori.

I enjoyed making a presentation about me cause it was really fun using animaker!
What I found diffcult is finding facts about te reo Maori, because there wasn't really much information on google about it but I got ten facts all done!
What I can improve next time is to put more information on the Maori Spirtuality one.

This is my slideshow!
