What can we learn from Sister Aroha's life?

Hello! In RE we have been learning about Sister Aroha, she is a catholic nun who left New Zealand to go to Sri Lanka so that she could take care of sick children in an orphanage.
For our task we had to make a DLO answering the question - what can we learn from Sister Aroha's life? I made a google drawing showing what we can learn from her life.

I enjoyed learning about her and the good things she did to help other people!

Here is my DLO!

What is an ecosystem?

Hello! Today was the first day of online learning since we are all in lockdown. We are learning about biodiversity, biodiversity is basically every living thing on this earth which are humans, animals, bacteria, plants and more. And for one for our understanding tasks we had to explain what an ecosystem was, if you don't know what an ecosystem is you can look at my canva!

I enjoyed learning about biodiversity and making this poster to explain what an ecosystem was! I didn't really find anything difficult.

Here is my poster!

Trip to Orana Park

Hello! Yesterday our classes room five and six went to Orana Park. When we first got there we meet two people called Bethany and Sarah, they were the ones who were going to show us around the zoo room five had Sarah and we had Bethany. After we had our morning tea it was time for us to go to our seperate classes and look at the animals!

We saw many different animals but the first animal we saw was the lions. Bethany told us interesting facts about lions, like how a lion's mane protects their neck when they're fighting and having a mane attracts the female lions.

The animals we saw were lions, tigers, reptiles, frogs, gorillas, farmyard animals (bunnies, pigs, chickens & more), kiwis, meerkats, otters, tasmanian devils, giraffes, lemurs, african wild dogs or painted dogs and cheetahs! It was very fun and we got to learn many facts about these animals. We even got to feed the giraffes and fish, but we weren't able to see all the animals because time ran out but that was okay!

Overall I enjoyed the trip and learning some new facts about the animals!

Here are some photos of the trip:

World Chocolate Day

Hello! Yesterday, the 7th of July was World Chocolate day or sometimes called International Chocolate Day, and because of it, we celebrated it at school by watching a movie called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory while drinking hot chocolate with marshmellows! It was delicious! We also learnt about the History of Chocolate from how it was before and how it came to be now, there were many interesting facts about it and I enjoyed learning about it! Here are some fun facts about the History of Chocolate - Back then, cocao was very expensive and only the rich could afford to drink chocolate. But also in France the royal family were the only ones able to drink it, up until the 1700s chocolate was just a drink but then in the 1830 the first chocolate bar was made. After we learnt about it we also did a follow up activity on it.

But anyways yesterday was a fun day, I enjoyed it because we got to watch a movie, drink hot chocolate, learn about the History of Chocolate and we even got to eat some chocolate as well!

W5T2 | Maths Strategy

Last week for maths I learnt how to do rounding and compensating which is an easy strategy to solve multiplication problems! So, for example if you want to figure out what 6 x 21 is then all you have to do is 6 x 20 ( rounding it to the nearest 10 ) which is 120 because 6 x 2 is 12 and then just add a zero to it which is 120! Then, 6 x 1 to add to 6 x 20 to make 6 x 21 which is 6 then add them together - 120 + 6 = 126! And there's your answer, 6 x 21 = 126! - (6 x 20) + (6 x 1)
                                                           120             6
                                                           120 + 6 = 126
                                                  and there's your answer!

It is a very easy and quick strategy to do, it is also very helpful when solving multiplication problems with big numbers. I enjoyed learning and using this strategy because it makes it easier to solve multiplication problems!

The Importance of Animals Used in War

For this week, we have been learning about ANZAC day - which includes the importance of animals used in war and learning about how people risk their lives for others. Since it is nearly ANZAC day, which is on Sunday 25 of April but the public holiday is on the 26, it is very important for us to know why we celebrate ANZAC day.

We have read different texts and watched many videos about it. For our task we had to either create a newspaper article about the importance of animals used in war or create a thinglink or a prezi describing what it is like living in the trenches. I have decided to make a newspaper article about the importance of animals used in war. For my newspaper article I have used websites from my own research.

This is my newspaper article!
